All of us small contractors face the same problem... we're on the tools during the day, and then we do paperwork at night (or we're paying a lot for someone else to do it for us). Hammertrack addresses this problem head-on, and it wasn't created in a fancy conference room by some tech bros who think they know what we need--it was created by a Vermont carpenter who's actually living it and facing the same challenges as you, every day.
Hammertrack is an app that focuses on three key things: 1) it collects your business's financial data rapidly, accurately, and in the moment so that you don't have to think about it or "touch it" again, 2) it makes that data useful immediately because it automates all of the things you would otherwise have to do manually with that data, and 3) because you only have to touch each data point (each transaction) once with Hammertrack, it saves you a lot of time.
No. In fact, there's really not much to learn... it's intuitive and straightforward, so you can just start using it. That said, we created a series of video "shorts" that cover each of Hammertrack's tools and settings. They're there if you need 'em.
Hammertrack replaces Quickbooks... and manila file folders, calculators, spreadsheets, bookkeeping, and every other piece of the cobbled-together workflow that all of us small contractors have always had to endure. Every contractor we know has developed his or her own system, but these systems are always made up of multiple tools and require multiple steps, each of which takes time. The irony is that most of it, like adding receipts to a spreadsheet, is literally busy-work... you know you have better things to do with that time.
Hammertrack's core functions are all integrated into a single workflow that reduces your pain. Your main task is simply to input transactions (receipts, labor, and revenue), and Hammertrack automates the rest:
* receipt intake, organization, & storage
* labor logging
* reconciling/bookkeeping
* project financials generation
* company financials generation
* accounting system
* report generation
* invoice generation
* tax season prep
Yes. Because your data inside Hammertrack is exceptionally "clean" (i.e. complete and accurate), your accountant can spend much less time on low-value work (pestering you for missing receipts or with questions about specific transactions) and much more time on high-value, interesting, strategic work like providing you with business guidance to help you reach your goals (or even just set them!)
How is Hammertrack's data so "clean" compared to the typical contractor's data in Quickbooks? General purpose, standalone accounting platforms like Quickbooks don't differentiate between clean and not-so-clean data. Hammertrack, on the other hand, is built with guardrails that ensure that only clean data goes in. And because Hammertrack automates just about everything else, adding data (transactions) is really your only task.
Data security and redundancy is our greatest, most important responsibility. You shouldn't just trust us on this... your data needs to persist no matter what, and it needs to be accessible even if Hammertrack disappears, so we have gone to great lengths to make this the reality.
Here's the summary of how we protect you: your data is stored in Google's Firestore cloud database (storage location #1). Your data is backed up in multiple other Google server locations for redundancy (storage locations #2+). Your data is backed up yet again in a completely separate cloud vault called Backblaze B2 (storage location #3). Hammertrack pays Backblaze (a publicly-traded company) for this service, but the account and vault is in your company's name and is accessible directly by you even if Hammertrack were to disappear. And finally, Hammertrack gives you the option of receiving a weekly .zip file of your active projects' data so you can store it locally on your own computer (storage location #4).
Our Terms of Service and our Security and Data Reliability Brief explain everything in more detail... we really want you to read these two documents. They are very short and written in plain language, and they say so much about who we are as a company. We're actually really proud of them.
